If you love horror – or want a strong entry point into the genre – this game is absolutely worth it.In-Depth Review:I bought this game as I recently got into trying first-person survival horror games.The story here is really compelling and there are ten different endings you can get, all dependent on dialogue decisions and choices you make during the game. So far, I’ve achieved 7 of the 10 over the course of three different playthroughs, and I’m keen to unlock the rest.The characters are very interesting and layered, and you’re never entirely sure who to trust during your first go around. That’s part of the fun though.Visually, the game looks really good and the voice acting is pretty great too in my opinion.As for whether you’ll find it scary, that’s a matter of opinion I suppose. There are around 20 different ghosts you can encounter (depending on the difficulty you’re playing on). Some of these are pure jump scares and others can deal damage, so beware. There are various difficulties to play on, and even on Very Easy there are still some really intense and scary moments. Admittedly, the AI on the janitors (who patrol the corridors and give chase if they spot or hear you) can be a little janky in my experience. Several times they got stuck on a guardrail or in a doorway and became basically a non-threat until I left the area and they respawned. It wasn’t a deal-breaker for me personally (I just found it kinda funny), but it might annoy some.I really enjoyed the characters, story, and lore (there are loads of notes, diaries, and documents around the school to be found) as well as the general vibe of the game.It’s probably worth noting that solutions to some of the puzzles are far from obvious the first time around. Reading notes carefully, rotating items in your inventory to find hidden things such as codes or keys, and paying close attention are all essential to solving these. They are randomized each playthrough too, so you won’t be using the same locker combination or keypad password as the last time you played. This keeps things fresh and makes replaying the game less repetitive.As for the product, the game ran really well for me on PS5. Visuals and audio are really nice and the overall presentation is good. I did run into those previously mentioned AI glitches, but they didn’t break the game. I didn’t experience any crashes or other issues, so that’s always a plus. You also get a whole load of character costumes which were previously DLC included in the game at no extra cost. There’s a lot of variety with these, and some even help take a little bit of the edge off the scarier moments, which may suit those newer to the genre like me.I’d definitely recommend the game. If you’re someone who is a big fan of first-person survival horror, there’s tons to enjoy here—compelling gameplay and story, well-executed scares, and a bunch of puzzles. Similarly, if you’re newer to horror, yes this is an intense game, but it’s also a solid entry point, especially playing on a low difficulty (with fewer ghost encounters and less sensitive enemy AI).
